The EMEA Masters finalist will take over the position left by Eika
Midlaner Jeong "Mireu" Jo-bin is set to join a new team in the LFL. The South-Korean player will join Gentle Mates for the Summer Split, sources have told Sheep Esports. Former Gentle Mates Midlaner Jérémy "Eika" Valdenaire is for now on the bench but could still join a new team aswell.
Midlane rotations
The decision to bench Midlaner Eika was decided following a difficult run at EMEA Masters this Spring. While the LFL third seed managed to make it to the group stage through play-ins, it failed to qualify for the playoffs with a score of 2-4.
Gentle Mates have explored various options as a consequence, notably Midlaner Kang "Tempt" Myung-gu was close to find an agreement with the French team at first. However, Tempt decided against joining Gentle Mates as he supposedly decided to retire instead.
A long offseason for Mireu
Even before playing at EMEA Masters, Mireu was on the list of a few LFL team. Notably, Aegis was interested in the midlaner at first but no talks had been engaged as Mireu wasn't allowed to explore options before the end of EMEA Masters. Aegis have secured another midlaner instead as it was difficult to compete for Mireu.
While also once consideration of Team GO, Supermassive was probably the biggest contender for Mireu this offseason. However, Mireu has decided to join the LFL team in the end as an agreement was reached this Wednesday.
Mireucle run at EMEA Masters
Known for reaching MSI in 2023 with Movistar R7, Mireu surprised a lot of fans in 2024 during his recent EMEA Masters run. His team, Beşiktaş Esports, came in as the second seed of the TCL. "Many" didn't predict them to make it very far at the tournament.
Deservedly, Mireu and his team managed to make it through the group stage of EMEA Masters with a score of 4-2. In playoffs, Beşiktaş managed to climb all the way through their bracket while beating Team BDS Academy on the way in the semifinals. Sadly for them, Beşiktaş Esports couldn't lift the trophy as Eintracht Spandau won with a score of 3-1 in the finals.
With Gentle Mates, Mireu will be looking to replicate similar results with an org aiming to reach the EMEA Masters title next split. He will be the only addition to the roster as the remaining four are expected to stay for summer.
