Vitality.Bee also contested the player
After losing his spot in the LEC, Mark “Markoon” van Woensel was highly sought after during the offseason at the ERL level—by several teams, including Vitality.Bee and Joblife expressed interest in acquiring the Dutch jungler's services. He also had some discussions with LOUD, but teams of the future Americas South Conference aren't allowed to make an offer yet. Earlier in the offseason, Team GO were also interested but Markoon chose to wait because the jungler still had a chance to find a place in a LEC team. The final choice was between Vitality.Bee and Solary.
Ultimately, Markoon decided to commit to Solary and reached a verbal agreement with the French organization on Friday, sources tell Sheep Esports. Earlier in the offseason, Solary also considered Andrei "Xerxe" Dragomir — who eventually joined Team GO, as previously reported by Sheep Esports — and Jochem "Rabble" van Graafeiland.
In the EMEA League of Legends elite, the jungler never fully had the chance to shine. Upon joining the LEC in 2021, the then 19-year-old was promoted to Excel’s main roster after just six months in the organization’s academy. He helped save Excel's season alongside Henk “Advienne” Reijenga, then stayed with the team until November 2022, before joining SK Gaming for the 2023 season. While considered one of the good players in his role at the time, he never found himself on a roster capable of competing for titles.
A difficult year in the LEC
The opportunity for a breakthrough seemed possible in 2024 with Rogue. On paper, the roster had potential, with veterans seeking redemption—Emil “Larssen” Larsson and Markos “Comp” Stamkopoulos—alongside Mathias “Szygenda” Jensen, who had yet to fully prove himself, and Théo “Zoelys” Le Scornec, who appeared ready for his debut in Tier 1 League of Legends. However, nothing went as planned. Markoon struggled throughout the year.
The jungler played a significant role in Rogue’s poor performance in 2024: the team placed 9th in both the Winter and Spring splits, and finished last in the Summer Split. According to Sheep Stats, Markoon was ranked as the worst jungler in the LEC throughout the year, with a score barely reaching the average at 50/100. Given his stronger performances in the past, the Dutch player will undoubtedly be eager to make up for lost time and regain his previous form.
Markoon is the fourth player of the 2025 Solary's version. Despite an unfortunate end in the Summer Split, Nicolas "Decay" Gawron and Belan “TakeSet” Ahour are set to remain with the team for the next season. Mertai "Mersa" Sari has been the organization's first recruit, as previously reported by Sheep Esports. Solary are therefore still looking for their new toplaner.
