Ruler returns to the LCK with his beloved team: Gen.G
Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk, one of the players who would inevitably be one of the great expectations of the offseason as he was a free agent, has (re)found his home for next year. Indeed, Gen.G have announced on Wednesday 20th the return of their historic AD Carry for the 2025 season. After 2 years with JD Gaming in the LPL, Ruler returns to his beloved organization, where he has played since 2016 and with whom he won the 2017 Worlds.
Feels good to be home
The Korean botlaner returns to his homeland after two years spent in China. Two seasons with JDG, with whom he came close to achieving the never-before-realized Golden Road by winning both LPL splits, the MSI but failing in the Worlds semi-finals against an out-of-sorts T1. After this successful first season, despite Worlds failure, Ruler returned to Korea for the Asian Games, which he won alongside Choi "Zeus" Woo-je, Seo "Kanavi" Jin-hyeok, Jeong "Chovy" Ji-hoon, Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok and Ryu "Keria" Min-seok.
His second season with JDG didn't go as well as the first, with no titles and, above all, no international participation, as the team missed both the MSI and the Worlds this year.
So it came as no surprise that Ruler wanted a new project for the 2025 season, and what better way than to come home? An organization he knows by heart, with whom he won the Worlds (under the Samsung Galaxy effigy at the time) and the LCK.
A strange return for the superstar?
This comeback to GenG may seem strange to some, given that he is taking the place of a certain Kim "Peyz" Su-hwan, who has more than proved his worth. In fact, at just 18 years and with two competitive seasons under his belt, he has already dominated the LCK and MSI with GenG, being more than brilliant. He even set a new record in League of Legends international history during the MSI final by doing 28 kills in a single game against BLG. Add to that some impressive stats over the2024 season, with still a lot of potential to realize, and it seems that the choice to sideline him was a complicated one. Peyz, who had to fill Ruler's shoes in 2023 (which he did brilliantly), will now swap roles with his predecessor, who will now have to prove that he's still of the same calibre as then.
However, although the results were disappointing, Ruler once again, as so often in his career, put in a good year in terms of individual performance. When you know what this player is capable of, this obviously makes him an first choice for any team looking for a new ADC.
Another big change is that Ruler will be playing with a rookie next year: Former FearX Youth player Joo "Duro" Min-kyu. After playing with players such as Son "Lehends" Si-woo and Lou "MISSING" Yun-Feng, he'll have to deal with a much less established support next year.
