Fnatic, Vitality and GiantX feature in our team of the week
Sunday saw the conclusion of the second week of the Summer Split of the LEC, the EMEA elite of League of Legends. Fnatic are now the only unbeaten team after their two wins over Rogue and SK Gaming. Vitality also have a place in our Team of the Week after bouncing back with two wins during the weekend. Finally, Sheep Esports would like to highlight the GiantX solo laners, who made a major contribution to the team's first success of the summer campaign, after missing out on the chance to achieve the feat against G2 Esports.
Toplaner: Th3Antonio
Renowned for being a tank player, Antonio "Th3Antonio" Espinosa came close to giving GiantX their first win of the Summer Split last week against SK Gaming... with Rumble. The Spaniard followed that up on Saturday with another excellent performance on the yordle, this time against G2 Esports: Th3Antonio twice solokilled a Rasmus 'Caps' Winther who had completely missed his game.
While GX ended up being outplayed by the Samurai, the following day the toplaner was even more decisive against MAD Lions KOI. On his Poppy, Th3Antonio made the right moves in early game, but above all found the perfect ultimates to set up teamfights for his team-mates. It was Th3Antonio, for example, who enabled GX to get the Herald and later win a 5v5 after Baron Nashor. After a slow start, Th3Antonio has found his place in the LEC.
Jungler: Razork
For the second time in a row, Iván "Razork" Martin is our jungler of the week. And with good reason, as the Spaniard was once again brilliant. On Vi, against Rogue, Razork fulfilled his mission perfectly: present on the botlane to allow his team-mates to get ahead in early game, incisive in the jungle to accumulate drakes, the leader of the Orange and Black then made room in teamfights to allow his carrys to annihilate their opponents.
Above all, Razork assumed his responsibilities against SK Gaming. In a more than indecisive game, the jungler was clinical with his Xin Zhao. Heavily heckled in his jungle in the first minutes, Razork pulled off his first big move by stealing a Nashor. His ability to absorb the enemy's focus in teamfights to make room for his team-mates to deal their damage also enabled Fnatic to win the final 5v5, which was firstly looking particularly shaky.
Midlaner: Jackies
The only excellent player at GiantX last week, Adam "Jackies" Jeřábek had put in three remarkable performances but had not been rewarded. The Czech continued his fine form with two great games against G2 Esports and MAD Lions KOI. Despite the defeat, it was more his performance against the Samurai that stood out: with his Varus, Jackies drew first blood in the 1v1 against Caps before racking up eliminations on the map thanks to surgical Piercing Arrows.
With a K/D/A of 7/2/2, Jackies ended the match with more than 34K damage, twice as much as his direct opponent. His one mistake proved costly, however, as G2 Esports were able to turn the tables after catching him on the midlane. Against MDK, Jackies was once again very good on his Taliyah (4/0/9), in a match where, this time, the whole team was solid to snatch a first win.
AD Carry: Carzzy (MVP)
Obviously pleased to see Ezreal back in the meta, Matyáš "Carzzy" Orság put in two stellar performances with his signature champion. Against MAD Lions KOI, the Czech picked up his first elimination in the 2v2 bot before stringing a series of perfect teamfights. Helped by a draft with plenty of controls (Renekton/Sejuani/Alistar), Carzzy was able to do his damage and rack up eliminations to finish the match on 7/1/4.
The AD Carry did even better the following day against Team Heretics, in a very similar scenario. Carzzy was quickly put into orbit thanks to a four-man dive that gave him a kill and an assist. He then piloted his champion perfectly in the grouping phases, well protected behind a frontline that was just as solid as in the previous day's match. Carzzy finished the game without dying once, with a score of 9/0/7, and is our MVP of the Week.
Support: Jun
Unlike last week, the supports were not necessarily the most outstanding over the two days. Several of them, such as Yoon "Jun" Se-jun, put in one top-class performance. Against Rogue, the Fnatic player was everywhere. After slipping a little at level 2, the Korean did everything right with his Rell: good engages in laning, presence on dives and excellent map reads to punish opponents who were out of position in sidelane.
Jun found an engage in the opponent's jungle which, seconds later, provided Fnatic with the Nashor that enabled the team to close out the match. His performance against SK Gaming, on the other hand, was relatively anecdotal. The support was surpassed in the early game roaming exercise by his compatriot Lee "Luon" Hyun-ho, and was not responsible for the slightest key move with his Nautilus. Still, it was enough to ensure that Fnatic remained unbeaten.
