Pepiinero is a Spanish legend and ElOjoNinja was the team's content creator
It's a completely different version of ZETA Gaming that will be playing in the LVP Superliga next season. According to sources from Sheep Esports, the Zaragoza-based organization—which ultimately retaining its spot in Spain’s top division—is assembling a team with a strong emphasis on content creation. The structure has already attracted the services of two players who are coming out of retirement: Spanish legend Isaac “Pepiinero” Flores, who will take place on the midlane, and the team’s content creator Daniel “ElOjoNinja” Vaquero Cotilla, who will step into the jungle position.
Although his name may not resonate with younger European fans, Pepiinero was a notable figure in the early days of the EU LCS. The veteran, who began playing League of Legends in Season 1, joined Europe’s elite in 2015 as part of Giants Gaming. While he never came close to winning a title during his three splits in the league, he cemented his legacy in one unforgettable game. Facing Fnatic in Summer 2016, he dealt an astonishing 1551 damage per minute with his Ezreal, accounting for 60.8% of his team’s total damage—a record that still stands in the LEC. Later, in 2017, he captured the Spanish championship in SuperLiga Orange Season 12.
In contrast, ElOjoNinja has never competed at the highest level. Early in his career, he participated in the lower tiers of the Spanish circuit, but he eventually shifted his focus to Twitch Rivals showmatches. More recently, he competed in Season 1 of the NNO Cup in June 2024, though his team was eliminated in the first round.
To lead this roster, ZETA have secured Jose “F1RE” Maria Iznardo Salar as Head Coach. F1RE previously coached Rebels Gaming, the team whose LVP slot ZETA acquired after Rebels decided to withdraw from League of Legends. However, his tenure with Rebels last summer was far from successful, as the team finished in last place during the Summer Split.
Which ambitions?
ZETA themselves struggled throughout 2024. Having played for the first time in the Spain’s League of Legends top division after two seasons in the LVP 2, the organization finished last in the Spring Split and second-to-last in the Summer Split. Their performance in the promotion tournament cost them their place in the LVP. Yet with Rebels’ exit, ZETA have been granted a second chance to compete at the highest level. Despite their renewed presence in the league, the team—which enjoys considerable popularity in Spain—appears to be shifting its focus beyond competitive results.
