DRX officially announced Sponge's contract extension
It's a daring choice on the part of DRX. Despite a totally unsuccessful 2024 season - with two ninth-place finishes in the LCK in Spring and Summer - the 2022 world champions have decided to renew their confidence in Bae “Sponge” Young-jun. Indeed, the organization announced this Tuesday the one-year extension of their young jungler, who had taken his first steps into the South Korean elite in 2024.
The year of confirmation
Sponge's first season in LCK was rather complicated. DRX did a 9th back-to-back finish in the two LCK splits with records of 3-15 and 4-14. Despite these poor results on his debut, Sponge held on to his jungler spot throughout the season, while the team made several changes to other positions such as toplane and midlane.
We can therefore assume that the jungler has the support of his structure and still has things to prove. In any case, he'll have to show what he's capable of next year if he hopes to improve DRX's results. We already know that another toplaner will be joining him, as DRX has also announced the departure of Kim "Rascal" Kwang-hee. The same goes for Head Coach Kim "Micro" Mok-kyoung, who is also leaving the team.
