G2 Hel claimed victory in the second edition of the Coupe des Étoiles on stage at Paris Games Week
Once again, the finale of the Coupe des Étoiles took center stage at the Paris Games Week, showcasing top-tier esports talent from the WNB Circuit. This year, G2 Hel (G2H) emerged victorious, confirming their status as a favorite and succeeding to Team GO Aurora who won the title in 2023.
G2 Hel: Overcoming Challenges
G2 Hel came into the finals as favorites, having eliminated last year’s champions, Team GO Aurora, in the semifinals and benefiting from a star-studded roster. Notably, G2H were unable to compete last year due to roster restrictions, as they did not meet the requirement of having at least two French players on their team. However, during the last offseason, the organization decided to bring in midlaner Manon "Sha" Legaignoux, which ultimately unlocked this situation.
G2 Hel’s triumph at the Coupe des Étoiles marks their second title of the year, adding to their victory at the Storm Takeover 2024 in June. Their performance in the Equal Esports Cup, where they finished in second place, left them with a bitter taste, making this win all the more significant.
On the other hand, BDS Valkyries pursue their struggle with second place. The team faced a similar challenge as last year, once again falling victim to the “curse of second place.” Despite starting strong and winning the first game decisively, they were unable to maintain their momentum. Their opponents, G2 Hel, quickly adapted their strategy in the draft for the second game, ultimately leading to a 2-1 defeat in the grand final. This result echoes their performance from last year, leaving them with more questions than answers as they look to improve in future competitions.
A New Chapter: Offseason Ahead
With the conclusion of the Coupe des Étoiles, the WNB season has officially come to an end. This marks a much-needed break for teams, allowing them to rest and regroup as they prepare for the upcoming offseason. As the competitive landscape continues to evolve, teams will have the opportunity to reflect on their performances and make necessary adjustments for the future. G2 Hel's triumph at the Coupe des Étoiles highlights their dominance in the scene. The end of the season provides a timely opportunity for all teams to recharge and strategize for what lies ahead.
